Job Description



The Sensory Scientist is responsible for all aspects of sensory and applies their in-depth knowledge of consumer and analytical sensory methods to lead research for innovation and renovation initiatives, as well as participate in the development of sensory and consumer capabilities. This role works closely with Product Development, Marketing, Sales, Quality, Regulatory, Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, and External Suppliers to deliver business objectives. The Sensory Scientist is responsible for designing the research plan, determine appropriate sensory and consumer research methodologies, coordinate tests, independently analyze and interpret experimental data, provide technical recommendations, and reports results to various audiences. We are looking for a high performance-oriented team member to apply their technical and academic excellence to the field of sensory testing for our entire portfolio.

Position Responsibilities

 

  • Deliver sensory research for all cross-functional customers, meet business objectives, drive standards, consistency, and ensure excellence in research.
  • Coordinate day to day sensory requirements for R&D; assist with internal sensory lab and panels.
  • Independently design sensory experiments; create research plans to fit overall business objectives.
  • Provide feedback to appropriate cross functional team members and customers; report findings and communicate next steps to team members; active participation in project team meetings required; ensure delivery of commitments and project milestones; deliver on time, every time.
  • Interpret statistical analysis of sensory evaluation testing results; perform comprehensive, sophisticated and critical evaluation of own data and data from other scientists; generate high quality, robust, compliant data and reports; communicate clearly and concisely to audiences with a wide range of understanding about sensory processes.
  • Provide extensive knowledge of industry best practices with respect to sensory methodologies and maintain awareness of developing state-of-the-art technology.
  • Support improvement of standardized sensory practices, protocols, and processes across various functions of the organization.
  • Lead validation of new technology applications via robust understanding of consumer science profile.
  • Work closely with other sensory scientists and product developers to effectively use internal panels as a product development tool


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum: BS degree in Sensory Science or Food Science (Sensory-focused)
  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience in sensory science, background in food or beverage, including coffee, preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience utilizing sensory research software (i.e. Compusense, FIZZ)
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%
