Job Description

The Cost Engineer occupies a key role in the Procurement Operations Department to develop costing models and tools using clean sheet analysis.  This role will identify the most critical cost and productivity initiatives for existing and new products, and help Procurement and Agile teams identify collaboration/negotiation points with suppliers, thereby realizing productivity and cost targets.

What you will do:

  • Responsible for achieving savings through the continuous benchmarking of different components and of different productive solutions while maintaining the same level of quality perceived by the customer
  • Support purchasing activities for all spend areas by working closely with the broader Procurement team, Category Teams, and Product Squads to find savings opportunities
  • Initiate supplier assessments to focus on 'should-cost' analysis, purchasing/cost management
  • Align and roll-out the 'should-cost' process with key suppliers as to manage the cost (e.g., by implementing and running structured benchmarking process and by initiating and developing Cost Roadmaps)
  • Assist analyzing supplier quotes and bids, and in developing business award recommendations
  • Agile pool member supporting teams in annual negotiations and capture of ongoing productivity opportunities.  Work closely with the Appliance, Beverage, and Indirect Engineering groups and Contract Manufacturers in support of product development and design to value efforts
  • Maintain and publish periodic reports to management summarizing test results, analysis findings, and other clean sheet related topics


What you must have:

  • Prior supplier management or procurement background with experience in contract manufactured products in food and/or consumer products is preferred.
  • Creative problem solver (as opposed to process follower) in ambiguous situations.
  • Direct experience with “clean sheet” or should-cost based negotiations and agile teams preferred.
  • Service-oriented attitude with strong communication skills, and a solid understanding of engineering design, specifications, cost drivers.
  • Individual contributor that is fully proficient in applying established standards; knowledge based acquired from several years of experience in costing area.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience in support of development and production of consumer goods in a global setting is highly desired.
  • Represents organization as a prime contact on contracts or projects.  Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Experience in global appliance production and familiarity with electronic/ electrical circuits and knowledge of controller /user interface applications is preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, planning, problem solving, and organizational skills in a global environment.
  • Self-motivated approach and experience in dealing with ambiguity while performing critical project steps.
  • Experience in defining project prioritization and flexible to shift project focus upon business decisions.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Visio and Power Point, and costing/clean sheet systems.
  • Six Sigma Certification desirable.
  • Up to 25% domestic and international travel required
