Transportation Specialist- Northlake, IL

Position will be responsible for facilitating the creation of inbound & outbound orders, shipping, receiving, product management, carrier relations and customer service. Ensure prompt, accurate, and systematic handling of finished goods and raw materials orders while providing outstanding customer service.

Shift and Schedule:

  • Full-time
  • Monday- Friday
  • 6:00AM – finished
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekend as needed is required

Position Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to on-site Transportation Supervisor
  • Accountable to manage DC branch demand for product by running truck load build (TLB), printing daily pick tickets and manage timely processing of STO’s from shipment to receipt.
  • Track on-time processes to manage efficiencies, communicating root cause analysis when below target and participate in efficiencies review & development.
  • Coordinate and manage relationship with supplying plants to facilitate in-stock status and timely receipts.
  • Schedule delivery times within the company system to downstream branch locations.
  • Provide consistent communication to planning teams regarding product availability and delivery expectations.
  • Manage & maintain ongoing and month end reporting relative to transportation activities.
  • Assist branches with follow up or general inventory inquiries.
  • Assist in managing inventory related to hub & spoke support. (combine with above? Or w/TLB process)
  • Work closely with warehouse staff & inventory personnel
  • Manage inbound deliveries by appointing carriers to a schedule, communicating and aligning with warehouse staff. (ensuring inbound deliveries align with JIT production schedules)
  • When necessary, cross-train and participate in other aspects of the business.
  • Execute new approaches/procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiencies & effectiveness of the department.
  • Asset management tools & resources
  • Development & execution of transportation plan based on driver capacity and load demand within TMS
  • Dispatch, directing work with aligned supervisor insight, and communicating with drivers to ensure daily transportation plan is met and adjust plan as issues arise
  • Reporting month-end metrics as needed

Total Rewards

  • Pay starting at $25.89 per hour

Requirements

  • Computer literacy, proficiency in data and metrics analysis (Strong MS Office required - Excel, Word)
  • 2 years transportation experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • 2 years experience utilizing SAP or alike TMS and WMS systems
