Job Overview:

The Sr. Automation Controls Engineer is responsible for driving the standardization and deployment of automation and controls solutions across multiple manufacturing sites. This role focuses on enabling scalable, resilient, and connected automation systems that support operational excellence, business continuity, and digital transformation initiatives.

This position operates at the corporate level, partnering cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and IT to enhance site capabilities, improve system reliability, and implement enterprise-wide automation programs.

Location: This position is based out of our Frisco, TXHQ. Hybrid flexibility!

Travel: Up to 50% domestic travel expected.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Automation Support & Deployment

  • Support the development and deployment of standardized automation and controls solutions across a network of manufacturing sites
  • Drive enterprise initiatives related to system backup & recovery, controls standardization, and network resiliency
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, reduce downtime risk, and increase scalability across facilities

Multi-Site Support & Capability Building

  • Partner with site engineering and maintenance teams to elevate self-sufficiency in controls troubleshooting and system ownership
  • Provide remote and onsite support across multiple locations, prioritizing high-impact issues and strategic initiatives
  • Develop training programs and documentation to strengthen site-level technical capabilities

Digitalization & OT/IT Integration

  • Support the integration of manufacturing systems with enterprise platforms, enabling data visibility and advanced analytics
  • Collaborate with IT to enhance connectivity, cybersecurity, and data exchange between OT and IT environments
  • Contribute to digital transformation initiatives, including data acquisition, reporting, and system integration

Program & Project Leadership

  • Lead and execute automation-focused projects across multiple sites, including low- to mid-capital initiatives
  • Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment with enterprise goals and timelines
  • Manage vendors, contractors, and system integrators supporting automation deployments

Standards, Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish and maintain best practices for controls architecture, change management, and system documentation
  • Drive consistency across sites by implementing standardized programming, network design, and system lifecycle practices
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, and corporate policies

Scope & Travel

  • Supports multiple manufacturing locations across a defined region (U.S. footprint)
  • Travel expected up to ~50% based on project and site support needs
  • Flexible work location, with strong partnership to regional sites and corporate stakeholders

Total Rewards:
  • Salary Range: $76,400 - $140,000
  • Actual placement within the compensation range may vary depending on experience, skills, and other factors
  • Benefits, subject to election and eligibility: Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Paid Time Off (including paid parental leave, vacation, and sick time), 401k with company match, Tuition Reimbursement, and Mileage Reimbursement

Requirements:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on automation or controls engineering experience at the site level
  • Strong experience with PLC/HMI systems (preferably Allen-Bradley / Rockwell)
  • Knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and digital manufacturing environments 

Preferred

  • Experience with OT/IT integration, SCADA systems, and data acquisition platforms
  • Exposure to backup & recovery systems, controls standardization, or enterprise rollouts
  • Background in food & beverage, CPG, or similar manufacturing environments 
  • Experience supporting or leading automation-related projects
