Sensory Quality Analyst – Green Coffee

The Sensory Quality Analyst serves as a sensory specialist with special focus on the evaluation of green coffee samples associated with purchasing functions and in overall beverage sensory, participating as a team member on cross-functional sensory teams to keep projects advancing against rigorous timelines. This Sensory role will monitor green coffee quality within our multi-site manufacturing environment in support of overall product quality and performance to standard. This position facilitates communication of quality standards and expectations to suppliers and reports on supplier performance. Additionally this position is responsible to document and maintain sensory profiles and attributes associated with green coffee part numbers, and support coffee purchasing activities to optimize sourcing opportunities. This role also supports other sensory related functions such as recipe development, blend and component optimization, and new product development.

What you will do:

  • Coordinate and oversee the receipt, preparation, evaluation, documentation, reporting and training functions required to ensure green coffee quality performance to standard.
  • Daily participation in the cupping of green coffee and tasting of beverage products, raw materials, and ingredients. Also, may evaluate prototypes, production samples, vendor samples, and competitive products as required.
  • Provide documentation and communication of quality standards and attributes for all green coffee part numbers to internal and external stakeholders, including purchasing teams and suppliers. Assist in the training and calibration of suppliers to the Keurig cupping methodologies and protocols.
  • Prepare and evaluate green coffee samples, including the physical evaluation of green coffee, sample roasting, dosing, grinding, cupping and brewing.
  • Maintenance of a “World Class” green coffee evaluation laboratory based on SCAA, 6S and Q-Grader standards. Maintain the SCAA certification of the laboratory.
  • Assist in the support of the execution and analysis of sensory findings from a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods, while also leveraging past learnings to continuously improve the sensory testing process.
  • Provide support in executing and continually improving multisite sensory training and best practices associated with sensory evaluation.
  • Coordinate the receipt and evaluation of green coffee samples from multiple production sites and documents and reports on alignment to standards.
  • Participate in the development of descriptive and sensory science tools, methods and processes on a multisite level.
  • Interact with multiple Keurig Sites, R&D function and other applicable cross functional teams to deliver excellent sensory and consumer guidance to contribute to decision making.
  • Continuously develop competencies in sensory evaluation and contribute in other areas as assigned such as sourcing, quality, regulatory, and supply chain.
  • Performs other duties as requested by management.


What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or related field required
  • Demonstrated coffee cupping skills and/or Q – Grader Certification.
  • Strong analytical skills and use of sensory quality tools
  • Demonstrated sensory skills in all aspects of sensory evaluation including, Descriptive, Discrimination, and Hedonic testing methods, product evaluation and statistics
  • 2-5 year experience in large scale beverage/food processing, or related industry preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively while managing resources to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization with multiple location responsibility is preferred
  • Highly motivated individual with a passion for Data Management and Document Control
  • Spanish language skills are desired.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% including internationally for up to 10 days at a time in rustic conditions.
