Job Description

The Buyer I – Raw Materials will by responsible for supplier relationships, raw material specifications, inventory level management and purchase order dispatching for some families of raw materials, as well as maintenance of item attribute data in the system.  The Buyer I – Raw Materials will fulfill the increasingly complex material management requirements for multiple production sites, increasing SKU mix, and direct importing of products.


  • Identification of raw material requirements in both quality and quantity specifications for informing RFP or RFQ projects.
  • Management of specific supply relationships
  • Logistical management of supply to various production facilities and internally.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate inventory levels for assigned raw materials.
  • Coordinate drop trailer activities as needed.


  • Follows all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements directed by GMCR and the department, including Buyer’s Code of Conduct.
  • Follows Sarbanes-Oxley financial controls as required by company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested by management.



  • 1-3 years of purchasing experience preferred. Experience in food manufacturing, including packaging materials preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or Accredited Purchasing Professional certification preferred.
  • Inventory policy and Material Requirements Planning.
  • SOX controls knowledge and compliance experience.
  • Analytical and reporting skills from data acquired from ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Great communication skills – verbal, written and electronic.
  • Computer Literacy, preferably experience with database programs, electronic purchase order systems, Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • Ability to uphold Safety standards, participates in Continuous Process Improvement on the job, and follows our Manufacturing best practices.
  • Ability to get along with others, be punctual, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to follow GMCR policies and procedures as well as our Operating principles.



  • Predominately sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required (67% - 100% of the workday).
