The Vice President, Tax is a senior finance leader responsible for setting and executing the global tax strategy. This role provides short- and long-term strategic direction and objectives, as well as general support to the core business to ensure the company’s tax posture supports business growth, operational excellence, and strategic initiatives—including supply chain evolution, M&A, and portfolio innovation—while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and governance.
This is a highly visible leadership role with significant influence on financial results, risk management, and long‑term value creation reporting to the SVP, Treasury & Tax, and leading a global team.
Responsibilities
Tax Strategy & Executive Leadership
- Define and execute the global tax strategy, aligned with global tax principles and overall business objectives.
- Serve as a key advisor to senior finance and business leaders on the tax implications of strategic initiatives, restructurings, and business transformations.
- Represent the Tax function with executive leadership and, as appropriate, senior governance forums.
- Establish strong tax governance, risk management, and “no‑surprises” communication with stakeholders.
Income Tax Accounting, Reporting & Forecasting
- Oversee North America’s role in the quarterly and annual income tax provision in accordance with U.S. GAAP (ASC 740).
- Provide leadership on complex tax accounting matters, including uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, equity compensation, and discrete items.
- Own effective tax rate and cash tax forecasting, partnering with FP&A and Finance leadership to clearly communicate drivers and outlook.
Compliance, Audits & Risk Management
- Provide executive oversight of U.S. federal, state, and Canadian income tax compliance, as well as other required global statutory filings.
- Lead the strategy for managing tax audits, inquiries, and controversies, balancing financial statement, cash, and reputational considerations.
- Ensure a strong SOX‑compliant control environment, with well‑documented, scalable tax processes.
Business Partnership, Planning & Value Creation
- Partner with cross‑functional leaders to support tax‑efficient outcomes across manufacturing, distribution, and supply chain activities.
- Advise on tax considerations related to business transformations, network changes, and M&A activity.
- Support tax planning initiatives that drive sustainable value, including credits and incentives, capital investment strategies, and operational efficiencies.
Indirect Tax & Transactional Taxes
- Oversee global indirect taxes, including sales and use, excise and product‑related taxes (as applicable), property taxes, and business licenses.
- Ensure scalable, technology‑enabled indirect tax processes in partnership with Finance and IT.
Tax Transformation & Technology
- Sponsor and lead tax transformation initiatives focused on simplification, automation, and data quality.
- Partner with Accounting and IT to implement and optimize tax technologies and analytics tools (e.g., provision and compliance platforms, workflow automation, dashboards).
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and modern tax operations.
People Leadership & Culture
- Lead, develop, and inspire a high‑performing global tax organization.
- Build strong succession plans and development pathways for tax leaders and technical experts.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture that values curiosity, accountability, and business partnership.
Total Rewards:
- Salary Range: $$218,800 - $310,000
- Actual placement within the compensation range may vary depending on experience, skills, and other factors
- Benefits, subject to election and eligibility: Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Paid Time Off (including paid parental leave, vacation, and sick time), 401k with company match, Tuition Reimbursement, and Mileage Reimbursement
- Annual bonus based on performance and eligibility
Requirements:
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred (Master’s in Tax a plus).
- 12–15+ years of progressive tax experience, including a blend of Big 4/public accounting and senior in‑house tax leadership within a large, multinational organization (CPG, food & beverage, or manufacturing experience strongly preferred).
- Deep expertise in ASC 740 income tax accounting and strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and Canadian tax.
- Strong knowledge of international transfer pricing regulations.
- Demonstrated experience leading large teams and managing complex, high‑risk tax matters.
- Proven ability to translate complex tax and accounting issues into clear, actionable insights for executive and non‑tax audiences.
- Experience driving tax process improvement and technology modernization.
- Strong executive presence, communication skills, and a collaborative leadership style.
