SUMMARY

The Sr. Manager Food Safety and Microbiology will lead the overall KDP Food Safety and Microbiological Program for hot and cold beverages and ready to eat foods at the corporate level and support R&D, Compliance and all manufacturing sites.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for Product Quality and Food Safety and work across the organization to implement a world class Food Safety and Microbiology program.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position reports to the Sr. Director QEHS. This position has 3 direct reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:       

  • Experience in leading corporate Foods Safety programs
  • Experience leading risk assessment and mitigation processes
  • Monitor emerging risks
  • Drive Food Safety risk reduction by providing technical support and guidance to manufacturing sites to develop world class Policies, Procedures, and Training to assure Food Safety and Microbiological Standards are achieved.
  • Design and lead validations of new products, equipment, processes, and/or procedures to confirm microbiological and food safety standards are achieved.
  • Lead the development of sanitary design and operating practices
  • Create relationships with manufacturing sites, R&D and Compliance to integrate best practices. Use these relationships to provide learning and transfer industry best practices and innovation for wet and dry sanitation, microbiological and allergen control within all zones of the plant environment.
  • Lead the development and implementation of food safety, microbiological monitoring, and sanitation training
  • Lead special situation investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans as they pertain to food safety and/or microbiological issues
  • Responsible for FSMA compliance



Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or Food Science; Masters preferred
  • 15+ years of leadership experience in food safety/compliance and laboratory management with a CPG company
  • Experience in aseptic systems & low acid canned or bottled foods or beverages required
  • Experience with managing FSMA programs including FSVP, HARPC preferred
  • Experience in working with High acid, low acid, preserved and unpreserved beverages, syrups & concentrates
  • Knowledge of microbiological methods and method qualification
  • Knowledge of food and water microbiology to support microbiological risk assessments and beverage safety
  • Understanding of physical and chemical microbial control procedures and effect on beverages
  • Advanced knowledge of food safety, sanitation and chemistry of cleaning (CIP, COP, dry cleaning methods), sanitary design of equipment and facilities, food microbiology and pest control
  • Be self-disciplined and highly motivated, with a passion for excellence
  • Ability to identify, define and analyze problems to find root causes and identify possible solutions.
  • Ability to collect relevant information, identify trends and patterns, and communicate
  • Work effectively as an individual contributor and manage a team of scientist in multiple locations
  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • PCQI certification

  • 30% travel primarily within the U.S. but can include Canada and Mexico and others
