Route Planner

The Route Planner is responsible for creating the daily tactical routing and loading plan for the distribution teams in order to maximize efficiencies, while utilizing standard operating procedures in conjunction with accounting for the nuances for individual facilities. Secondarily, they are responsible for providing daily reports for to the individual facilities for distribution and loading as well as having daily communication with the individual facility’s management and the routing team. Finally, the Route Planner is responsible for maintaining the Roadnet Transportation Suite data.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain master file information in Roadnet and SAP systems including customer data, product lists, truck and employee information.
  • Review previous days route plan and gather adjustments to customer and product data
  • Confirm available trucks and drivers available for daily routes.
  • Efficiently plan the pallet building, loading, and routing of daily orders based upon established business rules.
    • Adjust routes to run the minimum required to provide proper customer service yet effective enough to reduce costs.
    • Recommend required drivers and trucks for the daily volume.
  • Must have DOT regulation knowledge to safely route delivery teams.
  • Insure all reports are completed and copied to Branch Management and Routing Supervisor within the planning time window for each supported group.
  • Visit branches on quarterly basis and complete periodic delivery route rides.
  • Communicate with Sales and Operations involving any special orders or requests and keep the Warehouse supplied with routes to build.

Characteristics for Success:

  • Prior experience using Roadnet or similar Transportation Management software preferred.
  • Able to communicate effectively via phone and email in a timely and professional manner.  
  • Able to problem solve in a fast pace environment using department guidelines to triage requests.


Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • 1 year experience with dispatching / routing in a logistics / supply chain management environment
  • 2 years’ experience with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook
  • 1 year experience with Roadnet Transportation Suite or similar routing software
